About UrbanKID · since 2009
A magazine about family, written by parents.
UrbanKID began in 2009, when Dana was expecting our first child and we thought we knew what was coming. Since then it has gathered more than 6,000 articles, dozens of authors and 17 years of questions asked at 3 in the morning. It is a place for real parents: honest stories, ideas to try and room for doubt.

Same people, different years. The children grew up with UrbanKID.
How it began
A labour of love, alongside the day job, that became a love brand for parents in Romania.
UrbanKID started in September 2009, from an idea by Matei Garici and Mihai, colleagues at MediaPro Interactiv at the time. Orlando Nicoară believed in the project from the start and backed us with the first budget, enough to hire an editor. The first author was Vivi Floricică, and Vivi and Roxana Jilăveanu then led the team for many years as editors-in-chief.
What we set out to do
We wanted a place where parents could find everything child-friendly in town: playgrounds, parks, cafés, activities, events, holidays and games we had tried ourselves first. We wrote for parents who stubbornly believe their social life does not end when a child arrives, but gets richer.
What it became
Along the way, UrbanKID also became a source of parenting news and a positive-parenting blog: what you can try with your child now, at the right age, not after it has passed. We championed healthy upbringing, education and food, attachment parenting and natural parenting. We believe that, as a parent, it pays to be informed: not everything our parents did fits today, because times have changed.
A collective blog
UrbanKID has always been written by many people. Also writing here were Crina Ivan, Dana Roteanu, Otilia Preda, Milona-Alice, Anna Eftimie, Laura Câmpean of Wow Mămica, Andrada Crânguș, Elena Ungureanu and many other lovely people who crossed our doorstep. If you have an experience you want to share with other parents, your place is here too. And you wrote to us what UrbanKID means to you.
Where we started
It began with a pregnancy journal.
In March 2009, Dana wrote the first post. The children grew up, and the blog grew with them.

The 2026 rebuild
We dusted it off. Still on WordPress.
On 30 and 31 October 2026 we rebuilt the whole site, in under 24 hours, with an AI assistant and Respira for WordPress, the product I build. We removed the ads, kept every article and its address, moved from Divi 4 to Divi 5 and made the site ten times lighter.
